29 States Now Have A Seat Belt Law

On May 22, 2009 Minnesota became the 29th State to adopt a primary seat belt law. Although, airbags certainly have had an impact in saving lives they are still a supplement to seat belts. There are many who feel safer having airbags in their car and avoid wearing their seat belts. However, in some cases, an airbag can actually cause severe bodily injury if the driver is not secured to his seat. Feds Will Require Side Curtain Airbags by 2013

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will require automakers to equip all vehicles with side curtain air bags that provide head and torso protection in side-impact crashes by 2013. Safety advocates said it was a good start. See Side Airbags

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urges owners of certain Toyota, Honda, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Chrysler, Ford and General Motors vehicles to act immediately on recall notices to replace defective Takata airbags. Over seven million vehicles are involved in these recalls, which have occurred as far back as 18 months ago and as recently as Monday. The message comes with urgency, especially for owners of vehicles affected by regional recalls in the following areas: Florida, Puerto Rico, limited areas near the Gulf of Mexico in Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Louisiana, as well as Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Virgin Islands and Hawaii.
